Everyone should know it by heart, she thought. Words, whether penned or spoken, can wound or heal; create a miracle. More than forty years ago, Karen’s father told his little girl, probably in jest, that her poem was a load of horse shit – and shattered her heart.

Words have power. When we speak with good intention, our words have a profound effect. They resonate with something deep inside the listener. It’s not easy to disentangle from the mass ‘hypnosis’ and use uplifting language, all the time. But it’s worth the effort to remember that a few kind words are never wasted.

It’s probably fitting that, with the arrival of Spring, I’m emerging from a year-long hibernation, due to a broken leg (requiring surgery), a house-move, a family bereavement and a protracted winter of snow and freezing temperatures. All of the above rank fairly high on the stress scale, and I have been fairly reclusive. But thanks to years of training and experience, and some much-needed energy therapy, I am well on the way to recovery.
